Completed in 2020 and opening in 2021 the new performing arts classrooms and performance space are one of the first container buildings constructed in the City of Los Angeles.  Despite concerns that the building would reduce the amount of open space in the park, the design provides multiple benefits to park patrons. Native plantings provide habitat value for wildlife.  Replanting of the picnic grove with larger shade trees and additional plantings in the area surrounding the building provide a net increase of shade compared to the existing conditions.  The large shaded grassy mound provides a comfortable and casual viewing location outside the performance hall that opens out to the park.  The mound reduced the carbon footprint of the project by maintaining soil on site that otherwise would have been exported.
