Edmunds.com Linear planters and water features

The atrium is an essential and central part of Edmunds.com’s newly opened  143,000 square foot next generation workspace in Santa Monica California.

Conceptualized as a casual space for impromptu meetings, outdoor dining and more structured entertainment, a series of linear planters and reflecting pools invoke time lapse images of tail light streams when seen from the upper balconies.  At ground level, as the linear gardens move diagonally across the space the varied flowering and grassy plantings create the effect of an elevated meadow.  The Office of the Designed Landscape worked closely with M+M Creative to create this site specific precise tapestry of aluminum planters, custom water features and banded paving that functions as both a cohesive space and connective tissue between interior spaces.

This unique and innovative workspace has been widely published in Forbes Magazine, The LA Business Journal and Interiors Magazine.

Project Team: OotDL- Esther Margulies Principal, Brendan Kempf project designer, Charles Anderson design assistance, Mark Tessier project support, Sweeney + Associates Irrigation Design, Chris Mitchell M+M Creative Design Architect, Marc Schoeplein LSA executive architect.
